1. Information We Collect

When you create a Plurp account, we collect:

• Account information: Your name, email address, username (handle), and password (stored securely as a hash).
• Profile information: Optional profile photo and location/area preferences you choose to provide.
• Usage data: Plans you create or respond to, messages you send (including photos, videos, and voice messages), friends you add, and general app usage patterns.
• Calendar: If you choose to add a plan to your device calendar, we write that one event to your calendar. We never read your existing calendar events.
• Device information: Device type, operating system, and app version for troubleshooting and optimization.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Plurp service.
• Enable social features such as friend connections, plan sharing, and messaging.
• Show you relevant plans from friends in your area.
• Send you notifications about plans, messages, and friend requests.
• Ensure the safety and security of our users and platform.
• Analyze usage patterns to improve the app experience.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in these limited circumstances:

• With other users: Your name, handle, profile photo, and open status are visible to your friends. Plans you create are visible to the audience you select.
• For safety: We may share information with law enforcement when required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
• Service providers: We use a small number of third-party services to run Plurp: Railway (hosting), Neon (database), Cloudflare (storage for photos, videos, and voice messages), Resend (transactional email), Expo (push notification delivery), Sentry (crash reporting), and Anthropic (automated screening of text you post for harassment, hate, and other objectionable content). Each processes data only to provide its service to us.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text.
• All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted.
• Authentication is handled through secure JWT tokens.

5. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Access your data: View your profile and account information within the app.
• Update your data: Edit your profile, name, email, and password at any time. Your handle is fixed once chosen.
• Delete your account: Permanently delete your account and all associated data through the app settings. This action is irreversible.
• Block users: Block other users to prevent them from seeing your content or contacting you.
• Report content: Report inappropriate users, plans, or messages for review.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all your data — including plans, messages, responses, friend connections, and profile information — is permanently removed from our servers, along with our usage analytics and login records for the account. Crash reports already sent to Sentry are not linked to your account and expire on their own within 90 days. Backups of our database are retained for up to 30 days and then overwritten.

7. Children's Privacy

Plurp is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we discover we have collected such information, we will promptly delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or by email.
